Alternative Program Review Update

Churchill Gymnasium, tomorrow

Thursday October 15th, 2009, 7:00 PM

         URGENT!

This has also gone out as a mass email to make the links easier to follow and there is also an attachment in the email regarding the survey so please check your email and read both.  There are also copies of the attachment on the volunteer sign in table.

Time is of the essence and without immediate action we risk loosing the alternative stream of education in Ottawa.

This Thursday at 7:00 PM, we are meeting in the Churchill gymnasium to discuss the program review, the impact it will have on our school and our children’s education if the program is canceled, and how we can get involved to help prevent this from happening.  Our guest speaker will be Richard Deadman who is on the steering committee for the review, and is a very committed supporter of the alternative stream, and chair of the Summit School Council.

You should have received a survey from the board today, which is part of the review process.  There are numerous other ways to help inform the board and the trustees of the importance and the need for an alternative stream.

What can I do right now?

1) Write a letter!

Email Jennifer Adams (superintendent of curriculum) and the other interested parties (both board staff and trustees). Express your concerns about the program review and ask them what is the basis for this review? Points to cover in your letter can be found at the following web site. http://www.ladyevelyn.ca/node/242

Original letters are definitely appreciated, but ASAC has identified, a form letter that you can use if you wish.

2) Express your opinion!

Go to http://pages.overlay.tv/asac/ and record a message to the school board about why the alternative program is so vital to public education in Ottawa.  This is something each member of the family and community can do.

3) We need more help!

You may want to do more or have a special interest in a particular area.  The committees listed below are being formed with members of all six alternative schools.  If you would like to get involved with any of these groups, please send an email to programreview@asac-ottawa.org.

  * Lobbying

  * Media

  * Minority Report:

  * Outreach

  * Creative Action

  * Research/Policy/Legal

4) Get your friends and neighbours involved!

You don’t have to be part of the alternative stream to see how important and vital it is to the entire English (main stream) educational system.  The more the greater community joining hands with us, the stronger we are, for the betterment of the educational system as a whole for the good all of our children.

5) Keep up to date!

While updates and news will continue to be posted to the Lady Evelyn distribution list, we also have an email list for those most interested in participating in the review process. If you would like to be added to that list, please email Annette at annettehegel@yahoo.ca

Updates are posted at http://programreview.asac-ottawa.org and http://www.ladyevelyn.ca/programreview

You can also join the discussion group on Facebook at, Alternative Schools in Ottawa: More Choices

Questions or comments about any of the above can be sent to programreview@asac-ottawa.org

Everyone is welcome.  See you all there!
